Hilary Mills Lambert’s Plein Air Painting Workshops are for beginning and intermediate aspiring artists who want to develop an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of outdoor painting through demonstrations (in oil), lectures, practices, and critiques. Hilary is a native Vermonter who now lives in California. She has taken painting groups to Vermont for over 10 years. The outdoor painting workshop takes place in beautiful locations around the local area of Weston, Londonderry and Landgrove. Farms, rivers, mountains and gardens are everywhere. The workshop will start with compositions created with charcoal drawings in values, and then transcribed into an underpainting or grisaille. The focus then will be capturing the light and shadows’ color relationships using a limited palette. Brush handling and color harmony will be discussed. This is practical, classical training that isolates the complexity of nature with always, successful results.
Hilary has an MFA from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, CA and is currently at the Golden Gate Atelier, in Oakland. She has been teaching art to kids and adults for many years.
