Discover a fresh, loose approach to transparent watercolor. Learn to work with, not against, the medium to create dynamic paintings that seem to paint themselves. Learn how to observe and to simplify in a plein air setting and avoid overworking.

Each day there will be demonstrations and exercises to energize and excite — followed by lots of time for painters to create their own work, with the enthusiastic hands-on instruction that Marilyns students have come to expect.

This is a perfect workshop for those with some drawing and watercolor experience who have always wanted to try their hand at plein air, as well as those who are already familiar with working outside.

Marilyn often speaks to students about the creative process:  how to censor their own critical voices, make choices, cede control, and take risks that help them to integrate the things they have learned from successes as well as failures. There is nothing more rewarding to me than to watch a student transported by the process and fall in love with art making.

Rose is well known for the spirit and skill that she brings to plein air painting. She has won prizes in many prestigious juried plein air events. She was selected to be an artist in residence in New York’s Bryant Park. She is a signature member of the Northeast Watercolor Society, Catharine Lorillard Wolf Art Club, New Jersey Watercolor Society, Garden State Watercolor Society, and the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Her paintings have won numerous awards in statewide and national exhibitions and her paintings are held in private and corporate collections across the country. She frequently gives demos and workshops for state and regional organizations, and she currently teaches watercolor at The Art School at the Old Church (Demarest, NJ).
